Man throws bacon at Warragul mosque in hate attack

A man threw bacon at Warragul Mosque in an attack on the Muslim community.

A man in a grey tracksuit threw pork products at Warragul Mosque on Wednesday afternoon. Mosque leaders said the act was meant to offend and divide.

The incident happened days after social media influencer Nick Patterson posted a video of the mosque. In Islam, pig products are forbidden.

They are often used in attacks against Muslims. The mosque opened last year to serve the area's growing Muslim community.

It has faced graffiti and vandalism before. Mansoor Shamsi is the mosque's vice president.

He said the community is strong but needed to speak up. Victoria Police is looking into what happened.

Community leaders say residents have given overwhelming support.
