Religious leaders push Australia to lead on fossil fuels at climate summit
Religious leaders across five states are calling for Australia to support a global fossil fuel phase-out.
On Tuesday, leaders from Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Sikh communities will fly banners outside churches, cathedrals and temples in five states, urging Australia to step up climate action. The campaign coincides with a pre-COP summit in Fiji.
An open letter to Prime Minister Albanese will call for a global fossil fuel treaty and phase-out of coal, oil and gas. Australia has committed $100 million to the Pacific Resilience Facility, short of the $US500 million target.
