Getaway car torched after ram raid on Wodonga tobacco shop
Robbers rammed a car into an illegal tobacco shop early Tuesday. They stole goods from inside. Hours later, they set fire to the apparent getaway vehicle.
A vehicle smashed into Larrys Local on Jarrah Street in Wodonga about 2:10am on October 6. It caused minor damage.
People inside the shop stole goods. The shop has operated illegally for several years.
Hours later, a similar single-cab utility was found gutted under the Hume Freeway near North Albury. It had a distinctive bull bar and lights.
Firefighters attended the blaze about 5:30am. Police examined the burnt car and seized evidence from the shop.
Detectives are investigating whether it was used in the raid. A detective said it appeared to be the same vehicle.
This is the second ram raid on an illegal tobacco shop in the area in two months. A similar attack happened on August 7.
