Only 27% of Australians satisfied with government's gender violence response
A survey of 1,008 Australians found only 27% believed the government had responded adequately to recent gender violence allegations.
A poll by the Women and Girls' Emergency Centre surveyed 1,008 Australians about the government's response to gender violence allegations against Sydney Swans players and Scots College students. Only 27% said the response was adequate in the past month.
Forty-two percent said the response was very or somewhat inadequate. Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek condemned the Swans' response as falling short.
She also criticized Scots College for describing an alleged child rape as an incident outside school hours. Another July poll of 1,012 adults found 71% said the government had responded much too slowly or somewhat too slowly since domestic and family violence was declared a national crisis in 2024.
