Beloved ABC news anchor Richard Morecroft dies aged 70
Richard Morecroft, who anchored ABC's 7pm news from 1983 to 2002, has died aged 70 after a cancer diagnosis.
Morecroft died on the south coast of NSW at a time of his choosing, with his partner of 36 years, Alison Mackay, beside him. He was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
Morecroft presented ABC's evening news for 19 years and became a trusted face in Australian homes. Fellow broadcaster Leigh Sales paid tribute on social media, describing him as a gentle man and pure class.
